On August 19, celebrating the 80th National Day, Vietnam inaugurated and broke ground on 250 projects worth VND 1.28 quadrillion, affirming its resolve for rapid, sustainable growth and signaling a new era of national development.
Vietnam celebrated its 80th National Day with a landmark nationwide event on August 19, inaugurating and breaking ground on 250 key projects across 34 provinces and cities. The total investment value reaches VND 1.28 quadrillion (USD 50 billion), reflecting the country's determination to accelerate socio-economic growth and infrastructure modernization.
Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, speaking at the central ceremony, emphasized that infrastructure development has been identified as one of the nation's strategic breakthroughs for the 2021–2025 period. The projects, he said, are not only symbols of development but also a pledge toward a prosperous future.

National scales, diverse funding
Of the 250 projects, 161 are newly commenced while 89 have been completed and put into operation. State-funded projects account for VND 478 trillion (37%), while other funding sources contribute VND 802 trillion (63%), including five foreign direct investment (FDI) projects worth VND 54 trillion.
"These are all strategically significant projects that embody the collective efforts and resilience of ministries, localities, enterprises, and the people", Minister Tran Hong Minh said. "They are vivid evidence of our nation’s aspiration for development and our determination to rise".
The portfolio includes large-scale transport infrastructure, urban development works, industrial parks, and cultural facilities. Many were implemented under extremely challenging conditions, with the COVID-19 pandemic and volatile material prices putting pressure on timelines and budgets.
Commitment despite challenges
Citing the Prime Minister’s directive — "Benefits must be shared, difficulties must be shouldered" — the Minister praised the construction sector for its resolve to complete projects on time, considering it a matter of honor and responsibility to the Party, the State, and the people.
Key highlights include the inauguration of the Vietnam National Exhibition and Convention Center, several major expressways, new urban residential zones, and industrial production complexes. These projects are expected to enhance regional connectivity, attract investment, and improve living standards nationwide.

Laying the foundation for the future
Minister Tran Hong Minh stressed that the event marks a pivotal step toward achieving the government’s target of over 8% GDP growth in 2025, with the ambition of double-digit growth in subsequent years.
"The inauguration and commencement of these projects today carry special significance", he noted. "They create a firm foundation for Vietnam to enter a new phase of development — the era of the nation’s rise — and to realize our long-term vision of building a strong, prosperous, and civilized country".
He called on ministries, local authorities, and the business community to maintain the momentum, uphold the spirit of patriotism and innovation, and continue contributing to the nation’s development.
"With unity, determination, and shared responsibility, we will lay more stronger bricks in the foundation of a modern Vietnam", the Minister concluded.
