Science, technology and digital transformation drive growth in construction, transport

At a September 8 conference, Minister Tran Hong Minh stressed science, technology, innovation and digital transformation as the foundation for breakthroughs in Vietnam's construction and transport sectors, outlining key projects and legal reforms.

On the morning of September 8, Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh chaired a conference to implement Politburo Resolution 57 and Government Resolution 71 on promoting science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in the construction and transport sectors.

Minister Tran Hong Minh: Industrialization is the fastest route to sustainable growth.

Minister Tran Hong Minh emphasized that industrialization is the shortest path to sustainable economic growth and prosperity. In construction, it will accelerate urbanization and meet demands for housing, industrial zones, and social infrastructure. In transport, it will expand and modernize road, port, airport, and railway networks, boosting trade and regional connectivity.

He stressed that traditional management models and manual methods are no longer sufficient. To improve productivity, quality, efficiency, and global integration, science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation must serve as the foundation.

The Minister highlighted key priorities: developing smart cities and intelligent transportation systems, creating urban geological maps, applying BIM (Building Information Modeling) and artificial intelligence in surveying, design, inspection, and operations. Other focuses include green transport solutions, mastering high-speed rail and metro technologies, replacing river sand in construction, and applying drones and AI in disaster forecasting and response.

He called for closer links between the State, researchers, and enterprises to enhance the commercial value of research. Ministries and agencies were tasked with amending legal frameworks, simplifying bidding processes, and enabling lump-sum funding for scientific projects.

All units under the Ministry must submit monthly progress reports to ensure timely implementation of these initiatives.
